Because of its roofline, the Mercedes-Benz CLA is a stylish little four-door sedan that Mercedes refers to as a coupe. Mercedes might as well refer to it as a chameleon with the variety of models available, which range from the affordable CLA 250 to the intimidating AMG CLA 45. There are just minimal changes for 2022.
There is just one 2.0-liter turbo-4 engine, but it can be modified to produce 221 horsepower in the CLA 250, 302 horsepower in the AMG CLA 35, or 382 horsepower in the AMG CLA 45. The CLA 250 features front-wheel drive with all-wheel drive as an option, and the AMG models have all-wheel drive as standard. The AMGs have an 8-speed twin-clutch automatic transmission, compared to the CLA 250's fast 7-speed automatic.
Due to its cramped back, the CLA is best suited for two passengers. The cabin boasts creative lines and high-quality materials befitting its high cost.
On premium fuel, the EPA rates the CLA 250 at 25 mpg in the city, 35 mpg on the highway, 29 mpg combined, or 24/33/27 mpg with front-wheel drive. The AMG CLA 35 gets 22/29/25 mpg while the AMG CLA 45 gets 20/29/23 mpg.
Crash testing hasn't been done on the CLA yet. Automatic emergency braking, blind-spot monitors, and LED headlights are all included as standard safety features. Automatic lane changing and adaptive cruise control are available options.
