Chevy will replace its previous Trax subcompact SUV in 2024 with a new model that is bigger, more affordable, and more appealing on the inside and out. After the diminutive Spark hatchback was discontinued, the newly designed 2024 Trax, with a starting price of under $22,000, will replace it. It will go on sale in the spring of 2023.
The new Trax's dimensions are very different from the stubby, tall vehicle it replaces, with a much larger wheelbase, total length, and a lower roof height. According to Chevy, it boasts better luggage space and rear legroom than the model it replaces. The new Trax is actually marginally bigger than Chevy's other subcompact SUV, the Trailblazer, but it's positioned as the more affordable choice because the Trailblazer begins at $23,295 and has more engine options, including all-wheel drive, while the Trax just has front-wheel drive.
A turbocharged 1.2-liter inline-three with 137 horsepower and 162 pound-feet of torque is the only engine option for the 2024 Trax. It comes equipped with a six-speed automatic. The Trailblazer's base engine is exactly this one, although it comes with a more potent 1.3-liter turbo-three with 155 horsepower.
The base Trax LS will be among the most affordable SUVs on the market with a starting price of $21,495 for it. An 8.0-inch touchscreen screen and driver-assistance features like automatic high lights and lane-keep assist are included as standard equipment. The $23,195 1RS, $23,395 LT, $24,995 RS, which has a sharper appearance and 19-inch wheels, and the $24,995 Activ, which has a faux skid plate and chrome highlights, are further trim levels. A larger 11.0-inch touchscreen, adaptive cruise control, automated climate control, a sunroof, and a power driver's seat are available on higher trim levels.
Chevy claims that the Trax will be produced in Korea and shares a similar design to the Seeker crossover that GM sells in other markets. There won't be a 2023 Trax because the previous model's production ceased after the 2022 model year. The 2024 model is anticipated to arrive at American dealerships in the spring of 2023.
